About Plan A

About Plan A

Trust has been at the heart of our business for over 128 years, whether it’s how we treat our employees, protect the environment or help communities. In January 2007 we introduced a new eco and ethical plan called Plan A (because there is no Plan B for the one planet we have) to tackle a new set of 21st Century challenges. Plan A set out 100 environmental and social commitments to achieve by 2012. We’ve achieved most of them and been recognized as the most responsible company in the UK by Business in the Community; one of the top 5 companies in the EU on protecting the environment by the European Commission; the most responsible retailer in the world at the World Retail Awards; and been ranked by Newsweek as the 10th best company in the world overall and the best retailer. But that’s not enough. There are new, bigger challenges to tackle. We've now extended Plan A to 180 commitments to achieve by 2015, with the ultimate goal of becoming the world's most sustainable major retailer. Through Plan A we are working with our customers and our suppliers to combat climate change, reduce waste, use sustainable raw materials, trade ethically, and help our customers to lead healthier lifestyles. There is no Plan B.
